Carried on the impostor rather than recomputed by its consumer, because an atlas on its own cannot be placed. The quad a sprite is drawn on needs the object's centre and half-extent, and a consumer deriving them a second time from geometry it may no longer be holding is a consumer whose sprite sits somewhere the object is not.
