DiffusionKinetics
Arrhenius, capped by how fast the reactant can physically reach the surface.

This is what makes char glow for an hour instead of vanishing in seconds, and §7 says why.
Above about 800 K the chemistry of carbon oxidation outruns oxygen delivery by an order of
magnitude, so what you are actually watching is transport. The kinetic rate alone gives char that
disappears; the cap gives char that sits there glowing, which is what char does.
The two combine as a series resistance — 1/k = 1/k_kinetic + 1/k_transport — which is the
same arithmetic a shell boundary uses for the same reason, and it means neither side has to know
about the other. And the transport half rises with the gas moving past, so blowing on embers
makes them brighter and stops when you stop.
